MAGNOLIA PINKIE
Grower Notes:

Magnolia 'Pinkie' is commonly referred to as Pinkie Magnolia. This beautiful multi-stemmed, large shrub is a cross between Magnolia liliiflora 'Nigra' and Magnolia stellate 'Rosea'. It is part of the popular Little Girl® series of Magnolias that have been developed at the National Arboretum in the mid-1950s. They are known for their later bloom time - about 2-4 weeks later than other Magnolias so as to escape potential flower damage due to late spring frosts. It is one of the smallest Magnolias and bears abundant cupped flowers of pink-purple color, with white near the tips and inside. They open mid to late spring.

Pinkie Magnolia thrives in full to partial sun in slightly acidic, fertile, evenly moist, well-drained soils. They will not tolerate wet or poorly drained soils. A site sheltered from cold, dry winds would benefit this tree's spring blooms. Ideal as a focal point, for city or cottage gardens.
